List of stuff I need (/want) before I can use Linux productively, organized in order of importance: - Reliable ATI drivers for the X1800 XT - Reliable WINE (I like a lot of Windows programs - Paint Shop Pro, Aquaria, etc.) - A robust, feature-complete desktop environment that doesn't treat me like a moron (and is still supported) - Mousewheel acceleration - Optimized Flash Player (It hitches horribly when initiating applets, runs slower graphically, and screws up looping animations) - Sound daemon mess sorted out (along with less audio lag, louder master volume) - Access to multimedia buttons within games - Direct screen access for 2D games (I cannot think of a single reason why it should be restricted to superuser privs) - GUI archiver application supporting major formats (ZIP, RAR, 7Z, BZIP/GZIP/TAR, etc.) with option to set a default unarchive directory (appended with archive name) - Text anti-aliasing method that plays nice with Microsoft's ClearType fonts without blurring text horribly All this stuff is fine in Windows XP. The problem is that I'm slowly losing tolerance for its poor design problems (Registry? Seriously?!). Linux is the exact opposite, but thankfully it seems to have the upper-hand because it definitely has more potential (Hey, it seems to manage memory twice as fast, for one). It's a great platform; I only wish it had great middleware to go with it.
